Scuba course fee includes membership
in HHUC and free participation in
Fitness Sundays for the scuba course Trainees.
Three Steps for HHUC Membership:
1. Sign up for HHUC Membership for pool access, and pay your membership fee.
- UofT Students: Login with your UTORID
- Non-students: Login with your email address. (Create an account if you don’t have one.)
2. Sign the Club Waiver to become a Member
(This is in addition to the one Hart House registration site makes you click through when you register).
3. Sign the OUC Release – After we obtain your OUC number for you (re Club liability insurance), you will receive an email from OUC (the Ontario Underwater Council) prompting you to sign the OUC Release. To do that, please go to the OUC website, click the menu item for “Forms” and select the “Adult Liability Release”.

Membership Benefits
- Participation in HHUC pool activities such as:
- Option to participate in the HHUC scuba equipment rental program (additional fees apply to rent gear).

HHUC Code of Conduct
By becoming a member, you agree to follow the club’s code of conduct.
Hart House Underwater Club Code of Conduct Agreement
This Agreement outlines the expectations, responsibilities, and code of conduct for all participants of activities held by Hart House Underwater Club. The purpose of this agreement is to ensure a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all members, volunteers, and instructors.
By becoming a member of Hart House Underwater Club, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to comply with the following terms:
1. Safe Diving Practices
I agree to:
- Follow all recognized safe diving principles and procedures required by the club, certifying agencies, and dive leaders.
- Remain within one person’s reach of my designated buddy at all times underwater.
- Perform pre-dive safety checks and communicate clearly and honestly with my buddy and group.
- Prioritize safety above convenience, personal preference, or speed.
2. Respect for Volunteers, Instructors, and Fellow Members
I agree to:
- Respect, listen to, and follow the directions of club volunteers, divemasters, instructors, and organizers.
- Treat all individuals with professionalism, courtesy, and patience.
- Recognize that safety decisions are made to protect the group as a whole.
3. Proper Use and Care of Equipment
I agree to:
- Treat club gear as if it were my own, exercising care, respect, and responsibility at all times.
- Learn proper usage and maintenance procedures for all equipment I handle.
- use my own personal equipment and/or club equipment as assigned, and not to touch or otherwise adjust the equipment of other divers without their express permission.
- Ask a maintenance volunteer if I am unsure how to use, service, or store any item.
- Return all equipment clean, complete, and in good working order.
4. Commitment to a Volunteer-Driven Culture
I acknowledge that:
- All individuals supporting the club—including instructors, divemasters, organizers, and gear technicians—are unpaid volunteers.
- The club is not a dive shop.
I agree to:
- Actively contribute to setup, cleanup, and shared responsibilities.
- Support and respect the work of volunteers.
- Uphold the mindset of “leave the club better than when you arrived.”
5. Creating a Fun, Safe, and Inclusive Environment
I agree to:
- Contribute to a welcoming and inclusive environment for members of all backgrounds, identities, and skill levels.
- Encourage others, support learning, and maintain a spirit of camaraderie and curiosity.
- Promote safe behaviour and help create a positive community experience for everyone.
Acknowledgement
As a member of Hart House Underwater Club, I confirm that:
- I understand and accept the expectations outlined in this Agreement.
- I agree to follow all club policies, safety rules, and operational procedures.
- I recognize that failure to comply with this agreement may result in the review of my membership status, including and up to revocation and/or being barred from participating in future club activities.
