Graham Woolf

Greetings from Graham Woolf from L.A.

I remember when a diver disturbed a nurse shark in Grand Cayman, and it circled around to go after him. Or “One Breath Lundy” when Larry would come back with more air in his tank than when he left.  I remember Andy Garay being such a good dancer despite his size. I remember Sandy Brown being one of the funniest guys around. Does Victor Dimitroff still have his goatee? Does Kathy Ryans still wear that bikini?

I think about those trips all the time. I still have the photos. Great ones of you! I’ve been diving in Bora Bora with the Manta rays and grey sharks. Unbelievable.

I’m surprised that you guys even remember me! Bob, that nurse shark story is not Caribbean myth. I remember it well and I thought to myself “How crazy is this guy?” I loved seeing the photos of everyone then and now. Everyone looks great. I can’t believe that Sandy hasn’t changed a bit. He must color his hair. Kathy, you’ve got great looking kids.

Victor, Andy and Bob haven’t changed a bit. A few gray hairs like me. Sorry to hear about Don.

As for me, after undergrad, I did medicine at U of T and then GI at McMaster down the road for 2 years. I did a year of liver disease at USC (California). Then I did 3 years in GI private practice. Went into academic hepatology (study of the liver, not snakes which is herpetology) at Cedars-Sinai for 3 years and did research in quantifying liver function with breath tests with a group from MIT. They were way smarter than me. Became an associate clinical professor of medicine at UCLA.

Then went back to private practice at Cedars in 1995 to the present time. Got married to Jennifer from England 14 years ago and have two girls.  My specialty in GI is still liver disease but I do a lot of medical-legal work so I’m also part lawyer (no degree).

I still love scuba diving and do it on vacations. That Grand Cayman trip was fantastic. I remember the night dive when Larry brought up that huge king crab with his bare hands. If you guys are really going there again, let me know. How about going diving on the Great Barrier Reef before it all dies?

Would have loved to have been there.  Miss you all.
Graham
