Manitoulin Dive Report 1981

Dive Report Limerick

A group of keen divers were droolin’
For the deep shipwrecks of Manitoulin
      The waters were cold
      But the divers were bold
Such was their ardour – No foolin’

The wreck they sought was The Northwind
Each diver was suited and finned
      But the shaft overheated
      Their mission defeated
Near the wreck where their hopes had been pinned

Their adventuresome spirit undaunted
With dreams of success, they were haunted
      Dick showed them The Buckley
      Most found it luckily
And tales of wonder were flaunted

Their dive boat was quite an experience
Equipped with each modern convenience
      Except for a head
Or a stove or a bed
It met all their needs with expedience

Back at the campsite, Green Acres,
From the beach came the soft sound of breakers
      The meal was a winner
Til the gulls came for dinner
It’s safer diving sunk freighters

Local museum they flourish
Especially for diver-type tourists
      Little Current’s the finest
      Their treasures remind us
Of sailors’ sad tales and their courage

Run aground was the ferry called Chi-Cheemaun
Ending their week of lively fun
      They hated to leave now
      So plotted and schemed how
They’d return like the outing of ’81.
