Sustainable Seafood

HHUC SOCIAL NIGHT
Join us on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at 9:00 pm in the Bickersteth Room (3rd floor) Hart House, to bring in the new year for HHUC.

We are celebrating sustainable seafood.
Bring your own dinner or snacks to eat and share. Consider earth-friendly options, and/or sustainable seafood. Bring a little extra to share.  Bring your own non-alcoholic beverage too. We can put extra food on a communal platter to share.  People should bring their own dishes and cutlery, and a bag to take your stuff home to wash it at home.

January 16, 2020
Let’s all bring one or more of the following:
1 – a tip for sustainable seafood,
2 – a description of your favourite seafood (did you find it on the Pocket Guide? Will this affect your choice in future?),
3 – a yummy sustainable seafood recipe,
4 – sustainable seafood to share!
Here are some things to consider and learn about for our first social gathering of 2020:

What is sustainable seafood?
Sustainable seafood is fish or shellfish caught in a manner that can be sustained over the long-term without compromising the health of marine ecosystems.

How to choose
Choosing sustainable seafood is a simple and effective action that you can take every time you eat at a restaurant or buy seafood at your local grocer. Try Canada’s Seafood Guide: Find out the “Best Choice” seafood options in this pocket guide.

Always ask
– what fish is this?
– where and how was it caught or farmed?
Here’s an article with more info:

The SeaChoice website is a resource for learning more about sustainable seafood, and for finding out what other actions you can take as a consumer to support sustainable fisheries and healthy oceans. http://www.SeaChoice.org

See you on Thursday, Jan. 16 to join other HHUC members, and wish each other a very happy new year!
